A Texas holdem overpair is a pocket pair which has a higher value than any of the cards on the board. According to the free poker experts, for an overpair to be a decent hand, it has to be a double 9 or better as the odds of the other players having a bigger overpair will be much reduced. Playing an overpair is a lot similar to playing a top pair. And as a general rule, a player must bet aggressively in order to chase away drawing hands or anyone who's hanging around with overcards.
